Regaining Confidence in Your Appearance

21/10/2020 · collaborative post · 0

Not many people realise that self-esteem is something that is built, not something you’re born with. People that brim with confidence don’t become that way because of their childhood. Instead, it’s something they build over time. It’s something they work on throughout their lives, and it’s also something that tends to slip from their grasp every now and then.

The truth is that everyone loses their confidence in themselves now and then. However, when it comes to the easiest form of confidence to lose, it’s usually rooted in your appearance and looks. After all, if you ever spend time outside, you’re going to be seen by hundreds or potentially thousands of people. 99% of those people won’t remember you, but that can’t stop your brain from developing negative thoughts.

So how do you regain confidence in your appearance? How do you convince yourself to rebuild your sense of self-worth?

Fix the things you can and stop worrying about things you can’t

You might occasionally find yourself struggling to cope with something about your appearance that you can’t change. For example, maybe the size of your head is a little big or perhaps you were born a little too short for your liking. These are things that you ultimately can’t change even through surgery. There’s almost nothing you can do to get a smaller head or grow taller. In a case like this, you simply need to embrace those facts about you and work around them to regain confidence.

However, if there are things that you can change, it’s important to get started and work on building yourself up. For instance, if your lack of hair is something that bothers you, you may want to consider something like a FUE hair transplant. It may seem a little extreme, but it’s relatively common for people to undergo some kind of cosmetic procedure to improve their self confidence.

Switch up your wardrobe and break out of your comfort zone

Your appearance is a split between your fashion and your actual appearance. It’s important to occasionally switch up your wardrobe and try on some different clothes. You’d be surprised at how much of a difference it can make to your entire look. Try different kinds of outfits, mix up different accessories and consider wearing something that’s a little out of the norm.

The goal here is to break out of your comfort zone and do things a bit differently to see things from another perspective. Instead of just changing up the clothes you wear, you could also consider adopting a different skincare routine to see if it helps with certain issues, or you could try a different makeup brand or colour. There are loads of ways to shake up your appearance and you might even find something that you love. Don’t worry so much about looking silly or not fitting societal norms–have fun with your appearance and if it makes you more comfortable in your own skin, there’s no reason why you should avoid it.
