The weather is getting colder and the nights are drawing in quicker, which means it is time to think about swapping out summer crop tops for oversized jumpers and swimwear for sweats. Here is my round up of all of the essential items to have in your wardrobe this winter:
I love a cosy knitted jumper, it’s a comfortable piece that you can just throw on in the morning and know you are going to be warm and stylish all day. One of the perks on jumper season is that you don’t have to wear a bra and no-one would know, comfort all day what more coils you want. Pair your jumper with denim jeans, leggings or a skirt, its that versatile.
Denim jeans are a no brainer. You should have these in your summer and winter wardrobe. Put away the ripped and cropped jeans for next summer and pull out the high waisted and skinny jeans. There are so many different styles of jeans that you should try, our favourite for winter have to be jegging, skinny jeans and high waisted. Jeggings allow you to feel comfortable whilst still having the appearance of denim. Skinny jeans are great for layering, wear a pair of boots and a long coat to give you a sleek and city style. High waisted jeans are great for a more vintage vibe, the high waist hugs the body and gives the illusion of longer legs, I recommend styling with a tucked turtle neck and some ankle boots to match. When selecting your denim for winter opt of darker colours.
I love a good pair of wellington boots. If you like wintery walks, then I think these are a must. There are many varieties of wellies out there to suit individual styles. Wear some thick fluffy socks and you won’t have to worry about your feet getting cold and wet.
When temperatures drop, I think its time to get out the woolly hat. Not only does it keep your heard and ears warm but it is always good to throw on when you’re having a bad hair day. There are many styles and colours to chose from, and I love the more subtle shades such as oatmeal or brown if your feeling bold opt for a bright red or yellow to add a pop of colour to your outfit.
Yes that right, I said tights. They are an excellent addition to any outfit, layer under some trousers to keep extra warm. If you like to wear dresses over trousers, then you should invest in some thermal tights to keep yourself from feeling cold.
I know I have already mentioned having a jumper in your wardrobe, but have you got a jumper dress? I love this adaptation on a jumper, it’s an item of clothing you can just throw on if you’re in a rush or wanting to feel comfortable. Pair with some of those thermal tights you have and that’s your outfit sorted for the day. For a chic look, add some ankle boot heels and a hat.
If you don’t own a puffer jacket, get one now. When you wear a puffer jacket, it feels like you are wrapped in a marshmallow and who doesn’t want that. I love a puffer jacket in bright colours to make a statement, but if you want to be more subtle, I think black or white look great too. Pair with a tee, leggings and some trainer s for a casual look.
You can never have enough scarves in your winter wardrobe. From chunky to a shawl I think you should own them all. Different types of scarves go well with different outfits, so its always good to have a variety of colours and style to choose from.
For when you don’t want to leave the house and instead curl up with some hot chocolate and a good film, the dressing gown is there to keep you warm and cosy. The dressing gown is a very underrated fashion piece, its there when your feeling cold, when you’re feeling sad and when you don’t want to get dressed. It’s like a jumper and a blanket all in one, so if for some bizarre reason you don’t own one yet, then go buy one now, you won’t regret it.
