How to take the perfect online dating profile selfie

19/10/2020 · charlotte · 0

Online dating is stressful, there are no two ways about it. Building up a connection with someone without actually knowing them is a especially difficult when you are basing said connection off of a few well chosen pictures on their profile. Now don’t get me wrong I am all for using a few filters here and there, even the blemish removal tool on a pesky spot or two, but where do you draw the line?

With apps that can give you a smaller nose, bigger boobs and a perfect pout in under 30 seconds, it’s easy to get carried away and show the dating world a version of yourself that isn’t entirely truthful. Today I wanted to shatter that ‘perfect selfie’ illusion and tell you how to take the real  perfect selfie for your www.nostringsdating.net profile:

Lighting is your best friend

Be that natural sunlight, golden hour or with a little help from a mobile ring light, lighting will take the most simple selfie from 0 to 100 instantly. I personally think it’s hard to beat that golden hour light (thats the first hour after sunrise and the first hour before sunset, when the sun gives a natural warm light) it flatters everyone, acts as a natural filter and I personally think it has a way of enhancing your features, I find my freckles look more pronounced and my blue eyes pop under that beautiful natural lighting.

For a similar affect I really love using a selfie ring light, it means I can use the front facing camera on my phone and it doesn’t look like a fuzzy picture, it comes with different settings so you can pick the warm version for that golden hour affect and it helps if you are selfie ready but the gloomy English weather has let you down!

In your element

You can have the best lighting in the world but if you’re not comfortable it will show all over your face. I think the most beautiful selfies are usually candids, they are taken when you are truly relaxed and happy and these are the selfies you want on your dating profile. Maybe you have a passion for travelling or love visiting museums, these should be your go to selfies, they showcase you when you are the most you, completely in your element doing what you love. It’s so important to remember that although physical attraction is a vital part of any relationship, it doesn’t just come from a sexy selfie, the picture you took of yourself makeup free, smiling like crazy on that beautiful beach walk is just as alluring as one you took before big night out.

Tweak not cheat

As I already mentioned, editing your selfies is totally fine, up to a point. I often do things like warm or cool down a photo, remove an eyelash or a pesky spot or even add a filter to brighten up a dull lighting day. But I leave it there, and the reason for that is simple: I am who I am, an edited version will attract the wrong sort of person for me and lead to an embarrassing catfishesque encounter that I don’t want or need. It is so important to remember when you are using an adult dating site you are trying to find someone who is attracted to you, not a heavily edited version of yourself!

Variety really is the spice of life

I mentioned before that I like to include a few different photos of my self on my dating profile, and yes that included a nice night out selfie where I look half decent (I hope!) If you have a photo of yourself that you makes you feel gorgeous then go ahead and share it! Took a photo when you were dolled up for a big event? Put it on your profile! Even a quick selfie you took on top of the tourist tour bus in Paris (see my selfie above!) The point of showcasing lots of different photos of yourself it to show a more rounded version of you. We are so much more than a single image on a dating profile and that variety of photos really helps to round out your online presence!

So there you have it, my top tips on creating the perfect selfie for your online dating profile. I really hope this post was helpful, but more importantly I hope it helped you to realise that true beauty really does shine from within you, don’t get me wrong filters help but that natural confidence and passion isn’t something you can edit in, it’s all you, and when you meet the right person, they will see that before anything else!

Mixing things up on my feed with this picture I to Mixing things up on my feed with this picture I took in San Francisco, was such an amazing trip and the Academy of Sciences there is so amazing! How lucky are we to be surrounded by such beauty? Been thinking a lot about the little moments of joy we can find during lockdown. For all the awful things we’ve had to endure during this, the little moments in nature, time spent in our bubbles and moments of kindness filling our feeds...these are the things you cling too when times are tough.
If you squint just right you can see Tower Bridge. If you squint just right you can see Tower Bridge. I’m doing that in real life right now, squinting and seeing future day trips, staycations and people watching outside cafes. It’s not easy to see but squint just right and they are there in the distance. 💕
Another little throw back to a lovely summers day. Another little throw back to a lovely summers day. I think we’ve all been feeling a bit fed up of being locked down recently, the news doesn’t help and even with 3 vaccines we have a long way to go. It’s definitely been a struggle for me, I’m quite a positive person but there are groundhog days in this that really test that positivity! Just really wanted to say I get how you’re feeling, this is totally crap and I can’t believe it’s been nearly a year, I honestly can’t believe this is real life sometimes! We have an end goal now though, however long it takes we know this will end so hold on to that and let’s just give this final lockdown (fingers crossed) the best chance it can have to flatten the curve and help save lives. Sending you all lots of love xx
It’s such a weird time right now, we have a vacc It’s such a weird time right now, we have a vaccine and a potentially second vaccine on the way here in the UK which is great news. But seeing the numbers rise and the awful death toll has definitely left us all a bit shaken. I’ve been looking back at old photos of days out and remembered this amazing day I had at @leedscastleuk for the festival of flowers. Can’t wait to just go off exploring when this is all over. Trying to keep that in mind when the little lockdown wobbles hit. Sending lots of love to you all, one day we’ll tell our grandkids about the year we spent inside! 💕
Throwing it back to when we could all travel and I Throwing it back to when we could all travel and I made myself a new friend 😊 if you’re struggling with the new lockdown and need some support my DM’s are always open 💕
How are we all doing? It looks like we are heading How are we all doing? It looks like we are heading for a second lockdown here in the UK. For me living in a vulnerable household and having PTSD, well it’s been a rocky year! I’m trying to focus on things that bring me joy and so I’ve been working on giving my blogging space a makeover! How are you holding up?
