As I am writing this it is absolutely pouring with rain outside, I think it’s safe to say Autumn is here! (although here in the U.K it could be argued we haven’t actually had much of a summer..) As the weather changes I start to think about switching up my makeup and just having a bit of a refresh to reflect the new season. I have recently found myself being drawn to berry and brown tones, much more so than last year, I am a peach and coral girl usually so this is a big change for me! In particular I am really liking the look of the Charlotte Tilbury lipstick in Birkin Brown, it’s a really beautiful toffee brown which will be a perfect Summer to Autumn transitional shade. I personally find that my skin looks quite dull during Autumn, it’s definitely because of the lack of bright light outside! I do like a bit of fake tan but I am way too lazy to do it regularly, so to enhance my pale skintone I reach for peachy undertones to give an ‘glowing from within’ look!
I was instantly drawn to the new Illamasqua Radiance Veil for this very reason, a hydrating primer with a pearlescent finish and slight shimmer, this will really help to boost my pale complexion without me having to pile on bronzer and fake tan. For the same reason I was really intrigued by the new Tom Ford Eye and Cheek shadows, they have a pearlescent finish too which also gives an illuminated finish, it’s something that looks so much more subtle and beautiful in Autumn than full on highlighters, and the fact that you can use this on eyes and cheeks definitely appeals to my inner sloth!
I usually stick to a basic brown toned eye all year around but I am finding myself drawn to deeper plums and darker cappuccino shades this year, this MAC Look in a Box palette in Maven really appealed to me as it has a nice mixture of these shadows but also includes berry toned blushers and lipsticks to compliment them. As I don’t have a lot of berry toned eye or cheek shades this is a great way to test them out without buying 20 different products!
Another way to incorporate the berry trend is through different nail colours, I was really excited to see Barry M had extended the Speedy Nail Paint collection because the formula of these is just incredible! This new shade is called Sprint Finish and is a beautiful purple polish with a slight pinky/red undertone, it’s already in my basket!
When the weather starts to get colder I start to reach for warmer, spicier scented candles, weirdly I find candles especially comforting now I don’t have a fireplace! I really like the sound of the new Jo Malone Mimosa and Cardamom range, it is supposed to be a spicy, honeyed, floral scent which sounds perfect for when those cold dark nights draw in (I’m eyeing up the perfume too!)
I’d love to know what is on your Autumn wishlist, are you looking forward to tights and boots weather or are you still clinging onto summer?
Let me know!
