When you think about designing a home, what’s the first thing you think should be incorporated into the style? Well, everyone has their own thoughts about home design, and it’s all to do with taste and personal preference, but there’s one thing we can all agree on: it needs to be comfortable!
However, when you look around your home and feel like something is a bit off, or you’re not as at ease as you really want to be, there are definitely some changes that need to be made! But to do that, you need to think about ways to make your home a little more uncomfortable, and we’ve got some points for you to consider below.

You Need to Change Your Lighting
Changing the lighting in your home is a big part of making it feel more warm and intimate. Instead of simply lighting up a room with an overhead bulb in the evening, why not make smart use of lamps, both table and standing, or even just a few candles? These lighting fixtures tend to have more yellow or orange bulbs, which means they put out much warmer lighting, which isn’t something you’ll find with a daylight or blue bulb that tend to be used for illumination purposes.
The Temperature is Off
The temperature in your home might be way off! It might be too cold in winter and way too hot in summer, it could be the other way around – maybe the central heating and cooling in your home is always on full blast and it’s creating a very specific and weird weather system within your four walls.
And that can make your home very uncomfortable, for both you and any guests that come through your front door. It’s clear you need to dial back the heating or the AC here and there; change the times they kick in, only put them on at certain times of the year, and even investigate the insulation in your home to see if it’s working properly.

There is Very Little Texture
The texture in your home is very important, as a home that seems smooth and shiny in all areas can come across as a very uncomfortable place to be. Take a bathroom – without a rug on the floor, to step onto after a bath or first thing in the morning when you’ve just gotten out of bed, you’re going to be met with very cold tile and a potential slip hazard.
Apply this principle to the entirety of your home. Make sure you’ve got plenty of mixed and matched textiles, in the forms of cushions, blankets, covers, rugs, and even just breaking up blocks of negative space with lamps and plants. All in all, make your home a more interesting sight to look at, and you’ll feel much more comfortable!
Your home might be slightly uncomfortable, but there’s plenty you can do about this! A few changes in the air, texture, and lighting will go far.
