I absolutely love putting together ‘home design trends’ style posts, home decor is easily my biggest passion and I personally love to refresh my own home seasonally to give my space a new lease of life! I thought I would share my absolute favourites trends for 2020 and talk you through how I will be incorporating them into my own home.
Abstract design / It’s funny that abstract prints is a trend for both web and home design, it really shows how fashion trickles down through different mediums! I particular like abstract prints used in accessories like artwork, rugs and pillows which work well for this trend as graphic designs look best in stand alone pieces. They are a great design choice for renters too as it’s a way to add a pop of personality if you are struggling with a lot of white space!

Pink / It’s still having a moment but it’s time to move away from girly blush pinks and towards warmer terracotta and plaster toned pinks as they work better for this trend, think Marrakech over Malibu! This is one trend I think you can enjoy in any way you like, it works well as a paint colour, for curtains, decorative pillows and bedding (stick to linens and natural fabrics for that worn in, natural look) your only limit for this one is your imagination!
Natural Texture / Textures have been on trend for quite a while now, large sheepskin rugs and throws, berber pillows and even textured wall hangings but we are now seeing a move towards more natural texture, dried flowers (continuing on the trend for pampas grass for last year!) Think oversized vases overflowing with dried flowers, bowls of white seashells and driftwood wall decor. I get real seaside vibes from this trend which leads us on to…

Blue / It is the Pantone colour of the year after all! Blues are having a real moment and if you are looking for an easy way to incorporate them stick to a pop of blue in your accessories, I think bright blue vases look incredible for bringing a bit of life to a room, decorative pillows work well for this trend too and if your scared of bright blues go for muted tones layered in one space to give a bold modern look (I like the look of darker blue curtains against pale blue walls!

Modern Chintz / This is one trend I LOVE! I already have a big velvet throw on my bed and am eyeing up plenty of other bits for my bedroom. Chintz is a design trend that can be overdone but think chintz style prints used on modern pieces like oversized headboards, larger cushions and velvet throws (like mine!) They looks particular striking against modern design, think steel bed frames with William Morris style bedding in a rental or if you own your house then investing in modern style replacement aluminium windows and then dressing them with oversized ditsy printed curtains would look amazing! This is one trend that’s going to be huge in 2020 so it’s time to jump on the chintz train. Oh and speaking of my throw…
Velvet / Velvet is going to be huge this year and I totally love this trend, it’s something I have been included in my own home design for years as it adds luxury and depth to a rented space. Go for oversized velvet curtains in royal pops of colour (I’ve gone for gold/mustard tones in my house) pretty printed throws and even sofa covers in jewel tones (stay away from shiny velvet though – you want to go for matt velvets for this trend)
Ok so these are my absolute favourite 2020 trends and I am no off to add a ton of dried flowers and printed cushions to my online shopping basket!
What are your favourite 2020 trends for home design this year?
