Get Your Outdoor Spaces In Order Today

23/09/2021 · charlotte evans · 0

With the imminent dip of the thermometer on the horizon, you might be wrapping up any work outside your home for the year. You are probably thinking about cosy evenings in front of the fireplace with an enticing new book. Before your mind wanders too far into the next season, take a step back and reconsider your outdoor space. With a little planning and preparation, it will be user-friendly and ready for spring before winter even arrives.

Garage

A good place to start is in the garage. If it has seen better days, do not despair. You can fix it up for a brighter and more efficient space. Even though your garage serves a utilitarian purpose, you still want it to be functional and well-kept. Begin the process with an update to the garage floor with Fusion Coatings. You can have a professionally installed resin floor or purchase a kit for a DIY project.

A new coating on your garage floor means easier clean up when spills occur or dirt tracks in from the elements. They are durable and long-lasting with a quick-drying time that will have a limited impact on your schedule. Additionally, they are an attractive option that is much more pleasant to look at than a dirty concrete floor.

Garden

Plan a new garden now. Before the snow falls and covers your property, go outside and take stock of your space. Bring your phone and take pictures of the current locations of any flower beds or vegetable gardens.

Even if you do not break ground or plant this season, by plotting out your garden, you will be able to take a leisurely look at seed catalogues and calculate the amount of new soil that you will need.

If you are interested in any new garden furniture, now is a great time to look. Many stores reduce their prices to move summer furniture and decor to make way for fall and winter items.

General yard work

If you have not already done so, now is the time to clean up your yard and garden. Pull any late growing weeds and discard them properly so they do not re-seed. Take the time to begin raking leaves now instead of waiting for them all to shed. It is easier to do this in steps and makes the task less burdensome to dispose of them in small batches. Cut back and prune your vegetation, as appropriate, to prepare it for winter.

Home exterior

As you walk through your garden and outdoor areas, take this opportunity to inspect the entirety of your property. Assess the sturdiness of your fence and adjoining gates. Make repairs as necessary. If you find peeling paint, take note of how much is peeling and whether you can spot repair it or if the entire fence needs painting. A large job should wait until the weather is warm and sunny. A small patch can be painted now if the conditions are dry.

Tools and equipment

Look over all of your tools – both manual or powered. Now is a good time to repair, replace, or service them as needed. Do not overlook this task as well-maintained equipment will save you money over time. Assess your garden hoses, spray nozzles, and spigots for leaks and cracks. Remember to stock up on any seasonal supplies, such as work gloves or leaf bags, too.

As a homeowner, you know that there is always work. Make it easy on yourself and check a few essential items off of your list today. The warmer weather will come round again. You will want to find some shade and enjoy it.
