Ideas to Transform Your Garden Space

20/08/2021 · charlotte evans · 0

A garden is a sweet escape, a little green sanctuary that you can experiment with, grow and maintain as you please. It can also be a burden when you don’t know where to start!

A garden space should complement your style while requiring a level of maintenance that suits you. Long working days and adventurous weekends are not going to match well with a garden that must be preened and cleaned weekly. However, with some innovative ideas and a little patience, you can strike a balance.

Try updating your garden to create a landscape style that suits you with these ideas:

Repurpose and Sustain

Get creative with what you do in your garden. Keep your space simple and modern but don’t be afraid to think outside the box. Repurposing found or acquired items is a great way to do this while adding character to your garden.

Wooden palettes can be found just about anywhere and have come to be a trending item that is sneaking into homes and gardens that are looking for a more homegrown, simple feel.

You can turn palettes into tables, chairs, and plant boxes easily – it makes for a great day project! To protect them from the changing outdoor environments, it’s best to sand the palettes down and paint them. This is a great opportunity to add some colour to your garden. By sticking to natural colours in a pastel colour or vibrant tone, you can add a sophisticated edge to your handy work.

Trees and Grasses

Some people are not that good at keeping plants. If you find yourself falling into that category, select trees and grasses for your garden.

Depending on the size of your garden, it’s best to select your trees carefully so you don’t fill up too much space. When selecting what tree to buy, opt for a medium size and it should start growing within a few weeks of planting without that much care.

Long grasses, also called ornamental grasses, are known to survive all weather conditions and don’t attract any animals or pests that other plants do. Ornamental grasses have many different colours, textures, and sometimes even flower. This is a simple and attractive addition to a garden space that will always be low maintenance. If anything, leaving them to do their thing is best.

Levels and Dividers

Breaking up your garden into different areas adds structure and little pockets of interest. From patios and shrubbery boxes to pathways and swimming pools: divisions matter. They could also make your gardening efforts much easier.

A simple addition that makes a difference is a verandah social area. Think about where you put your barbecue and seating area to hang out with friends on warm summer days. With additions like slidetrack blinds, you have a space that can be enjoyed year-round, along with potential storage space that doesn’t occupy too much space.

Get creative with your garden space to create something that suits your lifestyle and interests. With a mix of innovation and understanding, you can make the most of your green space.

What are your favourite garden additions?
