As we head out of lockdown and into a ‘new normal’ a fair few of us are thinking more and more about our dating lives (or lack thereof!). If like me you’ve spent some of your lockdown time meeting people via dating apps and online, it can be really daunting to imagine meeting up irl. I think a lot of that comes down to how awkward that first date might be, especially if you’ve gotten to know each other well online and now have the daunting task of meeting face to face.
It can be easy to go down the ‘quick drink’ road but I think there’s something to be said about first date experiences being just that, an experience! It cuts through all the awkward small talk, gives you a shared story and is a lot more fun then the ‘any cool summer plans?’ forced chat, and lets be honest we don’t have many stories to share from the past year do we?
To celebrate the prospect of meeting actual humans I have put together this guide of perfect gamers dates in London but I really think it would be great for anyone who is just about to get back out on to the dating scene, who wants to do something a bit different and has a slightly competitive edge (I myself take crazy golf VERY seriously!)
- Four Quarters // With multiple locations across London, four quarters are a retro game fan’s idea of heaven! Great cocktails and a diner style menu, they make first dates about as fun as they can be, you can prebook tables and booths in the new post covid world and there is just something about that fun arcade atmosphere that seems perfect for breaking the ice!
- The Cauldron // Ok I absolutely want to do this one and have added it to my list of ‘if you take me here I will be seriously impressed’ dates! It’s not affiliated with a certain school of witchcraft and wizardry but an interactive experience making cocktail potions? In wizards robes? Just take my money.
- Queens Skate Bowl // I have so many happy memories of Queensway ice rink (well a lot of memories of clinging to the edge of the rink praying I didn’t break anything) so I had to include it, it’s a bit fancier now with MEATliqour taking up residence inside, a bowling alley (which makes the perfect first date in my opinion) and retro arcade games. The perfect gamers first date spot!
- Plonk Crazy Golf // Another option with lots of locations, I’d head to the southbank one as it’s located at between the bridges which is a riverside popup with beer gardens and live music, the perfect spot for showing that competitive side and then basking in your victory over post gold drinks!
So those are 4 of my top gamers dating ideas, I really do think they would work for anyone who want’s to do something a bit more exciting then going for a quick drink but maybe isn’t really into anything overly fancy (I personally hate the idea of going for a posh dinner, give me an arcade and a few cocktails any day) I’d love to know what your idea of a perfect first date would be, would you try any of these out?
