Sleeping Your Way To Healthy Skin: The Basics

07/09/2020 · fj posts · 0

Beauty revolves around flawless skin. Being the largest organ on the body, it’s impossible to miss the blemishes and flaws that can pop up out of nowhere. When you’re self-conscious, it makes the problems even worse as your stress levels will increase and lead to greasy skin and clogged pores.

Plus, there’s a mental health issue. If you spend all day worrying about what people think, you’ll never accept yourself for who you are and will be unhappy. The key is to try and make your skin as bright and tight as possible, yet it isn’t a walk in the park. If it were, you wouldn’t be Googling the secrets!

Thankfully, your worries can be eliminated with one word – sleep. Getting enough rest is the answer to your prayers as the body does its best work when it’s shut down for the night. Still, falling asleep, and staying in the REMS cycle, isn’t as easy as closing your eyes because lots of variables affect your bedtime. Then, there is the pre-bed skincare routine to tweak.

On the face of it, you may assume that getting the recommended quantity and quality of sleep required to help your skin is challenging. However, it isn’t with the following hacks.

Take Cannabinoids before bed

Although you sleep every evening, you may struggle to experience the high level of rest you need to wake up with a refreshed mood and vibrant skin. If that’s the case, it’s worth considering the use of cannabinoids since they are proven to help bad sleepers drop off for up to seven to nine hours per night.

This is because the cannabinoids from CBD products are long-lasting, especially when taken orally, and don’t fade for up to eight hours. Therefore, if you consume CBD right before you jump under the covers, you should sleep soundly.

The big decision is whether you opt for oil or gummies. While oil is more prevalent in the UK, the CBD gummies are tastier and contain higher cannabinoids levels. Also, they don’t have a chemical flavour as they’re designed to resemble sweets. You can put a droplet of oil into a pre-bedtime drink, yet eating a gummy is easier and more accessible.

Don’t worry about any adverse side-effects since CBD products in the United Kingdom contain trace levels of THC, the ingredient that causes marijuana to make you high. You won’t be hallucinating any time soon!

Use a moisturiser with Hyaluronic Acid

Using a moisturiser before going to sleep is essential as it prevents your skin from drying out overnight. People forget that seven hours in the same place without water is a long time, which is why it’s important to top-up at night. However, not every skincare lotion is created equally, particularly those that don’t include Hyaluronic acid.

In short, Hyaluronic acid is a component that encourages water to stick to the body’s cells. As a result, your skin should maintain a moist, healthy glow, whether it’s three o’clock in the afternoon or three o’clock in the morning (yes, there are two in a day!).

Although the acid occurs in the body naturally, it’s smart to boost the amount of Hyaluronic in your skin as you may run a deficiency. A straightforward way to tell is to look for flakes or spots on your arms, legs, and face. This is a telltale sign since a single gram of hyaluronic acid can hold up to six litres of water.

All you need to do is read the back of the bottle to check for this imperative ingredient. Alternatively, you can use a search engine and buy it directly from the internet.

Take on extra Collagen

Collagen is a buzzword among women because it has the miraculous ability to stop the signs of ageing. A lack of collagen is often the reason you can spot lines and wrinkles on your face, among other things. So, to be able to boost the production of this hormone is like finding the Holy Grail!

Okay, so it’s not as if it’s an elixir that will instantly cause your crow’s feet to disappear. However, you will see improvements in your skin if you focus on eating and drinking more of this protein. Studies highlight the fact that taking on hydrolysed collagen improves the notorious signs of ageing, from improving skin elasticity and increasing hydration and collagen density in the skin.

If eating it raw isn’t appealing, using products with high levels of vitamins C and A is a less invasive alternative. Both of these vitamins are believed to enhance the body’s ability to produce extra collagen when you’re asleep.

Taking vitamins during a pandemic is a very healthy habit since it’s common to run a deficiency when you can’t go outside as much or don’t eat the same foods.

Remove friction from Pillowcases

People sleep in different positions. You may find it better for your comfort to lie on your back when you’re in bed. Of course, you could prefer to smush your face into the pillow and pass out for a couple of hours.

For those who sleep in the latter position, a problem you must consider is the friction caused by the pillowcases’ material. If the fabric is tough, it’ll rub against your sensitive skin and lead to visible signs of ageing.

You could try sleeping on your back, yet it’s hard if you’ve spent all your life sleeping on your front or side. Also, back sleepers tend to snore, and snoring is a symptom of apnea. The good news is, you can stay in the same position as long as you splash out for smoother materials.

Silk is always an excellent choice because it’s incredibly glossy. Your skin will slide straight off it! Cotton is an affordable alternative. Another consideration is the thread count. The higher the count, the smaller the friction, so any fabric between two to eight hundred should be fine.

So sleeping your way to healthy skin really isn’t as simple as it sounds. Are you ready to go the extra mile?
