A Weekend In London – mini guide!

Last week my Mum and I went on a little mini break to London. Now being from London it might seem a strange choice for a holiday but as we haven’t lived there for a few years now and my Mum rarely goes back we thought it would be fun and would get us in the Christmas spirit! I organised lots of fun things for us to do and thought you might enjoy seeing a few pictures of what we go up to!

We stayed at the One Aldwych hotel, which is a truly beautiful and luxurious little hotel without being at all snobby or pretentious (something neither of us can abide!) From the moment we stepped out of our taxi we were treated like royalty and the staff truly seemed to enjoy making their guests experience as perfect as possible. As well as all the general mod cons of a 5 star hotel (bath robes, slippers, lush toiletries!) there were some lovely touches in the room like fresh flowers each day, fruit and bottled water plus little things like the ice bucket being filled twice a day and our pj’s being laid out for us just made it feel so special.

We had a spa day when we first arrived and I treated my Mum to a facial, massage and body scrub which she really enjoyed, I went for a full body 1 and a half hour massage and it was the most incredible massage I have ever had! I am a bit nervous about being touched and included the PTSD thing on the form before the treatment began, it was never mentioned but the lady was incredibly kind and calm when massaging me and made me feel so at ease, it’s the first time I can honestly say I would go back every week if I could! The spa itself is beautiful and there are fab touches in the changing area like cleanser, toner and moisturiser in big machines and ghd’s and hair products laid out for guests to use. We never had the chance to try the Pool or the Eucalyptus steam room but we told ourselves it was a good excuse to go back soon!

We then went to the little cinema inside Selfridges to see It’s A Wonderful Life which is my Mums absolute favourite Christmas film and it was just so lovely in there, we had a little settee with lots of cushions and just snuggled down and enjoyed the film. We popped into Dolly’s cafe and had cake and coffee which was amazing (I went for the coffee cake which was incredible, my mum chose the red velvet one which she said was as good as the Hummingbird cupcakes!) we nosed about in there and then walked through oxford street taking in the christmas lights and festive atmosphere!

The next morning we had breakfast in bed before heading down to Covent Garden (about a 5 min walk from the hotel) where we sat and had coffee whilst watching the crazy street performers! We did a little shopping and then headed back to the hotel where we had the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Afternoon Tea which was total mad and totally amazing, if your looking for a fun afternoon tea in London I would really recommend it! Once we were full we headed off to the Winter Wonderland where we did a bit more Christmas shopping and then went on a few rides (brave after a big afternoon tea!) we finished off with a ride on the big wheel before heading to China Town for some crispy noodles and then heading back to the hotel to watch frozen and eat sweets in our pj’s!

On the next (and our last) morning we headed to the embankment cafe for a full english before (very sadly!) checking out and heading home on the train, I can truly say it was the best little holiday I have ever had and we really bonded and enjoyed some much needed quality time together! I will 100% we going back to the One Aldwych it was such a lovely hotel and I would really recommend it if your looking to treat yourself (or someone special!)

Sometimes I forget what a magical and beautiful city London is but I feel so privileged to have grown up there and very very grateful that it’s just an hour away on the train, hopefully 2015 will bring some more blogger related reasons to head into London too which will be exciting!
