Christmas Makeup Tutorial: Gold
A few weeks ago I was contacted by the lovely people at Fragrance Direct to take part in a blogger Christmas challenge. They gave me £20 to spend on make-up from the site with the chosen ‘theme’ being Gold! I loooove me some gold makeup so I jumped at the chance to take part! I decided I wanted to focus on gold eye makeup as I think it’s quite a simple look to try out but it is really bold so perfect for the party season. I chose the following products:
1. Maybelline Colour Tattoo in Eternal Gold
2. Dainty Doll Eyehshadow in Kingston Town
3. Dainty Doll Eyeshadow in Treat Her Like A Lady
4. Max Factor Pan Stick in Fair
5. Maybelline Colour Sensational Lipstick in Golden Pearl
6. Revlon Custom Eyes Mascara in Blackest Black
7. Revlon Superstay Liquid Lipstick in Best Bubbly
8. Maybelline Cheeky Glow Blush in Creamy Cinnamon
Yep I think it’s fair to say I got my moneys worth with this little haul!!
So lets talk through the look:
1. I applied the pan-stick and then blended in with my fingers, I find that this foundation is absolutely brilliant for the part season, it doesn’t slip, doesn’t need to be set with powder and it looks really beautiful on camera.
2. I went straight into the eye makeup because I knew the eyes were going to be the main focus of the look and didn’t want to over anything else. First I applied the dainty doll eyeshadow in treat her like a lady all over the lid blending up to the brow bone, it makes the perfect base for a gold/smokey eye!
3. I then took a standard eyeshadow brush and patted the ‘Kingston Girl’ eyeshadow all over the lid, this is a bright yellow which applies more like a liquid gold, it looks absolutely incredible over the dainty doll shadow!
4. Finally I lined the upper and lower lids with the Maybelline Colour Tattoo using a small liner brush. I was careful to pat this in to give a really bright gold effect!
5. I then applied the ‘Creamy Cinnamon’ blush as a countour/blush to give some definition and a pop of colour without looking ‘too done’.
6. I applied my lipstick next, I used ‘Best Bubbly’ as a base and then ‘Golden Pearl’ to add some shine- the liquid lipsticks are amazing as they set on the lips to a matte finish and then don’t budge at all-perfect for an evening out!
7. I applied mascara last, this ‘Custom Eyes’ mascara wasn’t released here in the UK which is a shame as it’s really nice for adding definition to the lashes, you can click the lid to twist the brush too which is quite a popular mascara trend atm!
I love how versatile this gold look is just by lining the eyes with a black kohl you can make the look really dramatic! I also found that the gold really popped against the liner which made my eyes look massive and gave a bit of a Cleopatra look which I loved. I think the gold is subtle enough to wear during the working day and then by adding the kohl the whole look can be transformed for the evening!
I have to say I was really impressed with Fragrance Direct, there were so many bargains that I went back on the site the next day and stocked up on eyeshadows- would you like to see a haul post?
What do you think of my ‘Gold’ look? Let me know!
