MUA Matte Lipstick Collection
I decided to go for it and pick up all 5 shades in the new MUA Matte Lipstick collection, my justification was that for £1 each I couldn’t go wrong and £5 is still cheaper than the cost of 1 lipstick from a lot of brands! The collection is made up of the following shades and I have reviewed each of them below!
1. Totally Nude Probably my least favourite of the 5 as I found this quite hard to apply evenly and it left more of a patchy and milky finish on my lips. I have mentioned it before but my lips are quite red and I often find lighter colours a bit tricky to wear without my natural lip colour coming through. If you like nude lipsticks though you will love this shade, it isn’t too draining on pale complexions and looks great with a smokey eye.
2. Pouty Pink
A surprise favourite for me! This is a blue toned pink which suits my complexion perfectly. It was one of the most pigmented of the 5 (only narrowly beaten by Scarlet Siren) I love this shade and found the colour payoff was excellent, this has fast become a go to day lip shade for me!
3. Wild Berry I am still undecided on this one. Whilst I love the actual shade I wasn’t so keen on the finish, I felt it looked a bit patchy and it didn’t photography very well at all. I wanted this to be more like a berry stain but I found I had to swipe this on over and over to get a strong colour payoff, although the result was a beautiful mauve/plum I wouldn’t re-purchase this based on the faff of application!
4. Scarlet Siren If you only buy one shade then make it this one! Seriously this is MAC quality and the matte finish is just perfection! I would say this was a blue toned red and that is based on how white it made my teeth look! It also didn’t look cheap like you can get with some red lipsticks. The colour payoff is amazing, it looks beautiful and is the standout shade of the collection for me.
5. Peachy Keen This was the hardest shade to get hold of and I can see why, it is an effortless peach that just looks perfect slicked on for a casual day look or paired with a smokey eye for an evening out. I loved the payoff of this too- it reminds me a lot of the Illamasqua Androgen cream pigment and the matte finish looks really fresh after lots of S/S glossy peach shades.
All 5 of the lipsticks were quite waxy to begin with, as they are matte lipsticks I did expect this but that made them quite hard to work with. Once you’ve sort of dissolved that waxy top layer your left with a surprisingly good formula, it felt neither drying or chalky and had great staying power. For £1 I say splash out and get all 5, I for one will be checking out the lipsticks in the normal range from MUA after seeing some of the online reviews! Oh and thanks to the reviews online I found out the coloured base of these lipsticks unscrews and it filled with more product!

It’s quite snazzy how it can unscrew at the bottom, for a dollar what a steal xxx
