My Summer Makeup Routine

26/05/2012 · beauty · 0

I saw Lily Pebbles over at ‘What I Heart Today’ do this great post on her hangover makeup routine. I loved the idea of sharing a whole routine with you and as the weather is so lush I thought I would share my summer makeup routine!
Firstly I wash my face with Origins ‘Never A Dull Moment’. This cleanser is absolutely amazing and has really made a huge difference to the tone of my skin. It comes out of the squeezy tube like a gel and then froths up and really leaves you skin lovely and soft (I wanted to write squeaky clean but it doesn’t give that squeaky/dry feeling!)

I then apply the Origins ‘Brighter By Nature’ Moisturiser. It feels very nourishing and does take a little while to sink in but it is the nicest moisturiser I have ever tried and sets my skin up perfectly for a long day and it has SPF35 in it.

Next is a new favourite of mine, the Maybelline Dream Fresh BB cream. I use the Universal Glow shade as it seems to adapt to give a nice wash of colour and I find I don’t need to use too much. It also has SPF25 so with this and the moisturiser I know my skin in protected.

I find a light wash on the cheeks is enough just to give a pinch of colour. I love Cargo Cosmetics Cheek Activator in Rose Flush. It comes out white and adapts to your skin tone to give a beautiful flush of rosy pink. It is also supposed to give a firming effect to the cheeks.

In keeping with the natural look I like to use a light neutral wash of colour on the eye. I tend to use a slightly shimmery colour as I think it works quite nice with blue eyes. At the moment I like the new Barry M solid single eye shadows as they have a nice pigment and look lovely and fresh on.

I curl my lashes with Shu Uemura eyelash curlers which really helps to open up my eyes. At the moment I have been using the Maybelline Illegal Lengths Mascara which gives nice defined lashes for the day.

I finish off with a slick of Revlon Lip Butter in whichever shade works best with what I am wearing that day.

So pretty simple I think, but I could never be one of those girls that can go out with no makeup at all (my face definitely needs makeup!!) but I also couldn’t bare to wear a ‘mask’ of makeup in hot weather!!

What products do you use when it is nice and sunny?

I used to wear smokey eyes ALL the time. One day I was staying at a friends and forgot my palette so had to borrow a plain shadow and everyone complimented me on my ‘fresh faced’ look so now I try to stick to one colour on the lid in the spring/summer. I do however like a good heavy mascara all the time! xx

It comes out almost bright orange and I was thinking I had made a huge mistake but then it just blended perfectly 🙂 xx

I like the look of that BB cream, I have the Garnier one but I don’t really like it.
My makeup in the summer is really similar to the winer; I don’t like heavy foundation anyway, but I do have to use powder in the summer as my foundation goes a bit shiny if I don’t; a problem I never have in the winter with my dry skin!
I always wear quite heavy eyeshadow and mascara and this is the same throughout the year!
