4 Moving Mistakes You Should Avoid

26/10/2021 · charlotte evans · 0

Moving to a new home is an exciting time and event in your life. It’s a chance to start fresh and make new memories with the ones you love.

You may be looking forward to moving so much that you fail to get organised and figure out what you need to do and by when. Continue reading to understand four moving mistakes you should avoid so you can ensure the process goes smoothly and is a success.

No Proper Planning

One moving mistake you should avoid is not doing any proper planning. You must start a to-do list and checklist and have a good idea of what tasks you need to tackle first and foremost. Create a timeline and record down what must occur and by what date. Make sure that you understand your deadlines and that you’re ready to take action when necessary. It’s not wise to wing it and try to go with the flow when it comes to moving because you risk important to-dos slipping through the cracks.

Trying to Do it All Yourself

You might want to DIY your move and then come to realise when it’s too late that it’s too large of a job for you to do alone. Avoid trying to do all the work yourself by hiring packers and movers who are the experts and can ensure the process goes well and that you don’t feel stressed out. They are quick and skilled at what they do and will efficiently get you into your new home without any delays. It might also be useful and in your best interest to enlist help from friends and family who can come over and lend a hand as you get organised for the move.

Not Allowing Enough Time

You must allow yourself enough time to get packed up and moved. Avoid starting at the last minute and being and feeling rushed. Instead, refer to your timeline and work backward so you have plenty of days and hours to get all the work done. Remind yourself that you not only need time to pack up your belongings but also time to purge and declutter your current home and space. You don’t want to bring items with you to your new home that you don’t want or need. You also want to leave enough time to prepare your family, kids, and pets for the move and ensure everyone’s on the same page.

Neglecting Your Current & New Home

Another mistake to avoid when moving is neglecting your current and new home. For example, you should make sure you take the time to deep clean your current space where you live now. You should also make any repairs that are needed and leave it in good condition for the next people. Also, go into your new home and figure out what projects you want to tackle before moving all your belongings into it and beginning to add home décor. You’ll also want to make sure that you cancel utility services where you live currently and set them up at your future location as you move and get settled.
