Hiring A Builder For The First Time? The Guide

04/06/2021 · charlotte evans · 0

All you need to do is turn on daytime TV, and you’ll see multiple programmes about the public’s horrible experiences with ‘cowboy builders’. You’ve no doubt seen how bad it can go, so you want to know one thing; how do I find the right builders? With so many choices out there, it can be hard to decide on the best company for the job.

The Most Important Factors To Consider When Choosing A Builder

There are many different factors that should be taken into consideration when looking for the best builders. First and foremost, experience is imperative. You don’t want to go for someone that is going to be effectively learning on the job. You want to be safe in the knowledge that they have carried out plenty of successful building projects time and time before. You should also make sure they have a considerable degree of experience in the specific type of building you require, i.e. whether you are looking for garage conversions or specific builds, as these sorts of projects differ in their demands and approach. The best thing to do is go for builders that have a good degree of experience across the board.

Aside from this, it is advisable to read reviews that have been left by previous customers. This will be extremely telling because you can rest assured that customers will take to the Internet to express their dissatisfaction if they have been unhappy. You should easily be able to pick up on a company with a bad reputation, and you will know to look elsewhere instead. A quick five to ten-minute search online can be very telling. Do the company clean up after themselves? Are the builders friendly and professional? Was the customer happy with the result? This is the best way to get the answers to the questions you want to know.

Ensure The Builder Has A Genuine, Outstanding Reputation

However, one thing to be mindful of when reading reviews regarding building contractors is when the company seems to have posted the reviews manually on their website themselves. When this occurs, it can be very difficult to determine whether the reviews are genuine or not. The best thing to do is look at independent review platforms, such as Checkatrade, as you can be sure that the company in question has had no influence over the comments that have been left. Therefore, if you notice a builder with an exceptional reputation, then you know they have earned it.

Of course, the price is a vital factor when it comes to paying for any service, and building is no different. However, the last thing you want to do is simply go for the cheapest building company you lay your eyes on, as you are almost certain to suffer at the hands of a lack of quality. It is a good idea to compare quotes so you can get an understanding of what a fair price is for the job you need doing. Make sure the quote is provided free of charge and that there is no obligation to use the services of the company afterwards. You will also want to make certain the company is accredited before using their services, and it is a good idea to discuss the particulars, such as a deadline for project completion.
