Visiting Bill’s Canterbury

14/06/2017 · Lifestyle · 9

One of the things I miss about living in London is all the amazing places there are to eat and drink. Canterbury has become a bit of a foodie city in the past few years though and I was very happy to see the signs go up a few weeks ago to say Bill’s was on it’s way. Now if you haven’t tried Bill’s yet I am pretty sure you have seen one of the very instagrammable breakfasts on your feed! I was lucky enough to be invited down for lunch and I have to say, I was so impressed.

We sat outside and they really have done a great job at making the outside area really private even though it’s in the middle of a very busy thoroughfare. I liked the attention to detail, blankets for when it gets chilly, seat pads on the metal chairs – silly little things but they can make a big difference to your overall experience don’t you think?

We decided to share the vegetarian mezze platter to start which consisted of: Spiced tortilla chips, grilled garlic mushrooms, crumbed halloumi sticks, chickpea and parsley falafels, olives, fresh Pico de Gallo salsa, avocado hummus, tzatziki, smoky tomatoes. The platter was huge and would definitely be enough for a shared lunch on it’s own (and it was so good that we devoured every single bit of it) I am still dreaming of those spiced tortilla chips!

We then got 2 mains, the Mojo Marinated Chicken Skewers and the Panfried Sea Bass Fillets. The chicken skewers had a really light spice to them, perfect with the little pot of tzatziki and they were accompanied by a massive cucumber and red onion salad, pearl couscous and grilled flatbread. The salad was so fresh and light and I am now obsessed with pearl couscous which is something I had never tried before!

The Sea Bass was cooked perfectly and came with both a tomato, avocado and caper salsa and bubble and squeak potato rösti -they definitely don’t skimp on portions here! We washed it down with the watermelon, peach and raspberry juice which was so refreshing and really went well with the summery menu we had chosen!

I wish we’d had room for desert but we practically rolled out of there after all that delicious food, but I will definitely be back to try them out too. I did want to just touch on the staff there – every single person we saw was so friendly and worked really hard to make sure everyone was happy with their food whilst dealing with lots of enquiries and prepping for the launch of their new menu (which is coming in a few weeks!)

I think Bill’s is such a good fit for Canterbury and it’s already creating so much buzz here (every person who walked passed stopped to check the menu or ask about a table!) and I’m pretty sure I will be becoming a regular, especially after checking out that breakfast menu…

I have only ever been to Bill’s for breakfast but can see I will need to go back soon as the food looks heavenly. I think I would have to go for the vegetarian meze platter too, just for the halloumi and mushrooms!
