Last Minute Christmas Day Makeup Tutorial

25/12/2013 · beauty · 0

I wanted to show you a little makeup look I put together for Christmas. I find Christmas day a difficult one for makeup, usually you spend it at home and so it feels strange to get made up for a day indoors- but then if you have guests so you can’t really go completely bare faced! This look is my take on a pretty, glowing face that is both naturally pretty and a bit sparkly for the big day!
1. Prep
First things first you will need a good primer as you want your makeup look to stay in place all day and look really fresh. I used the Hourglass Mineral Veil primer which I got a sample of, it gives a beautiful velvet finish to the skin and completely blurs out pores. I also love the Nivea Express Hydration Primer and Benefit The Porefessional.
2. Base
I wanted a glowing base so I am using the NARS Sheer Glow, it gives a really good medium/heavy coverage and makes your skin look glowing without looking overdone, just a really beautiful finish. Similar foundations that I love are Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum and Rimmel Wake Me Up!
3. Sculpt
I used the Hourglass Ambient Powder palette and took the darkest shade and just defined my cheekbones with it, it’s a beautiful shade for pale girls and it’s especially nice as a bronzer alternative shade. I also like the Bourjois bronzing primer which I use as a bronzer/sculpting shade.
4. Brighten
I get pretty bad dark circles under my eyes and so I need a pretty heavy duty concealer to keep me looking fresh-faced. I like the Erase Paste by Benefit, it has a peachy tone which seems to neutralize the blue tones in my dark circles. A little goes a long way with this one as it’s quite thick but tapped in with your ring finger gives you full coverage with a luminous finish.
5. Blush
I used 2 different blushes for this look, ‘Lavish Living’ a purple toned blush from MAC’s Divine Night collection and then a sweeping of ‘Talk of the Town’ over the cheek bones to add a slight highlight. I also really like the Bourjois cream blushers for adding just a hint of colour and the H&M highlight powder!
6. Define
For the eyes I went for a really shimmery chocolate toned look which is great for all eye colours and is just enough sparkle to work for any Christmas day look! I used the Maybelline Color Tattoo in ‘On and On Bronze’ but instead of patting it on with my fingers I used a brush to get just a light wash of colour, I then left it for a few seconds to ‘set’ and then applied MAC’s ‘Bronze’ all over the lid up to the brow bone using a MAC 217 (any fluffy brush will work, be sure to blend, blend and blend some more!).
I finished the look by patting some of the MAC ‘All That Glitters’ in the middle of the lid to give some depth to the look- this eyeshadow is awesome at making your eyes look bright and massive! I took some of the bronze along the lower lashline and then applied a few coats of Revlon’s Lash Potion Mascara (after curling my lashes)
Oh and eyebrow wise- I used a pale brown shade to lightly fill in my brows- I wanted them to look defined but not too done!
7. Polish
Lots of eating and drinking mean the chances of a bold lip staying put all day are pretty non existent! I went for a pinky toned lip so if it does wear off it won’t result in a big faf trying to reapply! I used a little of the Maybelline Baby Lips balm to hydrate the lips and make the colour apply more evenly, I then took the Revlon Liquid Lipstick in Iconic Iris which is a beautiful purple toned pink which sets on the lips and has pretty amazing staying power. Over the top I added the MUA lipgloss in Nude to add some shine, it also plumps your lips without any stickiness.
I really hope this look gives you a bit of inspiration for your makeup look today! If you’re anything like me you will probably be spending today eating way too much, watching a billion films, playing games and then falling asleep in front of the T.V. Whatever you are doing I hope you are having a lovely day and Merry Christmas!!

That’s a very fresh look, I like it 🙂 but I would put more mascara on, especially near the roots
