Mothers Day 2012
Hi girlies,
Just wanted to write a little post as I am feeling really sad today…my mum and dad went away on a cruise last week for 2 weeks and it never really occurred to me that I wouldn’t be seeing my mum today! My mum is my best friend and I am so grateful to have her in my life. I did get to surprise on the ship though as I sent her a great gift package onboard which included flowers, cupcakes, champagne, breakfast in bed, canapes before dinner and a big fluffy robe and slippers! I was really impressed with Royal Caribbean for their option to give gifts to people on board and how easily they organised it!
I know there was a lot of talk in the press about how it isn’t good to have a friendship between a mother and daughter and that it should just be ‘parent-child’ relationship (one of the articles talking about this was this one) I just don’t understand this as my mum is the first person I want to share anything with and I love spending an afternoon catching a film/having coffee/doing some shopping with her! I think this is something that comes with getting older and experiencing tragedy. She has had some health issues in the past 3 years with a few cancer scares. I have to admit it completely changed our relationship. I am now very protective of her and just cherish the time I get to spend with her!!
If you ever feel like people judge you for being too close to your family (I know quite a few girlies who get stick for being very close to theirs!) then remember this thing my dad told me once:
“When your on your death bed you will be thankful for the time you spent with the people you love and who love you back…unconditionally. Family is the most important thing in the world”
I think this can be thought of the other way around too, the thought of it makes me want to cry but it is true, one day your mum wont be here anymore, I have so many friends who have lost parents and say they wish they could just see them one more time, just one hug or one conversation….I definitely understand and its one of the reasons I cherish my relationship with my Mum.
So here’s to those heros and best friends and role models we call Mum!
Oh and to my Mum?
I hope your lying on a sunbed with a rum cocktail as you cruise around the Caribbean, no one deserves to relax more than you! (and I hope Dad hasn’t embarrassed you yet :p) I love you with all my heart and this is going to be the only mothers day I won’t spend with you, next year if your on a Caribbean cruise I will selflessly come along too π
HAPPY MOTHERS DAY EVERYONE!!

Apparently she cried! I didn’t think I would be bothered about mothers day but it was really sad not spending it with her! Hope you had a lovely day π xx
I love this! I spent Friday/Saturday with my mum and it was fab! Sure your mum will have a lump in her throat as she gets your lovely gift x
I got a text from her saying she cried at the gifts and that she missed me π Oh I made it sound like we have the ‘perfect’ relationship but we argue plenty too π I still couldn’t wish for a better best friend though, hope you and your mum had a lovely mothers day!! xx
This is the sweetest post π I’m close to my mum too and there’s nothing that I wouldn’t share with her! Although we occasionally have our disagreements, she’s still the first person I turn to for support and advice. Hope your mum is having a fab time on her cruise! Sophia xxx
