Happy Sunday everyone! I realised I have not done ‘Pet Corner’ post about my (not so little) cat Lola since we move about 6 months ago. I’ve talked about him before but in a nut shell he was treated very badly by a neighbour before they abandoned him completely, we took him in as a flea riddled gaunt little stray who was afraid of everything and after a few years of some basic love and a lot of attention he has blossomed into the sweetest little cat in the world! I am not a cat person really but he just totally stole my heart, he is a real personality and he loves to play and chase everything from actual cat toys to rolled up socks! I don’t know if it’s a normal thing for cats but he is quite fussy food wise, he doesn’t like anything but poultry in jelly sachets and some dry food but he is VERY partial to ham and will sit giving you guilty stares until he can swipe a bit! He is no trouble really and when we moved he went from being an outdoor to an indoor cat really easily, like most cats he likes to sleep pretty much all the time but he is also really affectionate, if I am down or poorly he will cry and come and lie on me purring and snuggle up- it is very sweet. I will admit that going through all the things I have been through in the past few years has been made 100% easier with him to look after and focus on, he makes me smile everyday too which is pretty amazing. He still gets nervous, he was a bit sick a few weeks ago and cowered in the corner- we realised it was because his old owners would kick him if he ‘misbehaved’ and he was so scared he was shaking. We coaxed him out of his corner and a little cuddle made him calm down- it makes me realise how far he has come though but I would be lying if I said it didn’t make me sad and angry that they treated him so badly!
We did take him to the vet recently and got slightly scolded for him putting on a bit of ‘holiday weight’, apparently ‘but he was skin and bones when we took him in’ wasn’t the right response- whoops!, that being said it’s important for cats to stay a healthy weight or they can get really poorly so we have been encouraging him to run around the house more and have more playtime (and cut right back on the treats!) other than that he is a pretty chilled out (but slightly windy and moody!) mad little man and we wouldn’t have him any other way.
I’d love to hear about your pet story, make sure you leave your pet post links in the comments 🙂
Lola features a lot on my Instagram so if you’d like to see more pics of him click here!
