So I picked up 5 of the 10 new matte balms from Revlon, I wanted to be able to review the whole range but I couldn’t justify spending £80+ on lip products! I picked up 2 of these at normal price and then went back when the 3for2 deal started to get 3 more!
The range is now made up of the original balm stains, the new glossy stains and the matte stains. I personally really liked the original balms but when other brands started copying them (although technically Revlon did copy Clinique!) I noticed with each new launch the quality got better and better, by the time the Rimmel versions came out last year, I had all but forgotten about my Revlon ones!
I picked up 5 shades from the matte range:
Mischievous: A bright true orange
Audacious: A coral/orange
Elusive: A cool toned pink
Sultry: A brown/pink
Shameless: A true purple
Quality-wise I found the lighter shades had a less opaque finish, I have quite red lips and I personally found Mischevious didn’t suit me at all which I was very disappointed with! I love me an orange lip! If you have quite pigmented lips but want to try an orange I would suggest the Audacious shade, it gave a nice pop of colour and had good colour payoff. Elusive and Sultry were my two stand out shades, the finish is beautiful- matte but not chalky and for me they felt like a MAC cremesheen, quite moisturising and easy to apply.
I loved the shade Elusive because I personally don’t wear a lot of pink lipsticks, this is more of a taupe/pink and looks great if you like more cool toned lipsticks. Sultry is a fairly dark brown/pink shade, it reminded me a lot of Maybellines Superstay in Lasting Chestnut but a little bit pinker, I think it’s the perfect everyday shade!
Finally ‘Shameless’, this was the shade I was most looking forward to but the one that disappointed me the most!The colour payoff was excellent, it gave an truly opaque finish and was a beautiful purple, not too dark against my pale skintone but not too warm either. What I disliked was that this made my lips look super dry and flaky when they weren’t! I can only imagine what it would have looked like if they had been! I’m all for prepping your lips for colour but this just felt like it ‘sat’ on top of my lips and didn’t really give me the finish I wanted.
I’ve seen loads of reviews of these online but I never saw anyone talk about the finish just the shade range so I hope this was a bit helpful? I found that aside from Shameless, they all had a lasting-time of about 2/3 hours and then the stain they leave lasted for a further 1/2 hours. I found shameless wore off in around 1/2 hours and left a stain for around 2/3 hours. I should also say these ones are much more minty and tingly then the original, I could really smell/taste the mint, I quite liked it but if your’e not a fan of the originals then you definitely wont like these!

I have been thinking about it. I thought the elusive was more warm toned and was thinking about buying it Maybe it is cool toned as you said, I should look at more carefully next time.
my lips get pretty dry too- I’m a sucker for a matte finish though which is so unfair! xx

I should have said- some of the shades looked really different to me once I got them in natural light as opposed to the store lighting- definitely something to check before picking your shades! xx
